Summer European Tour

In June 2010 the Paly Choirs embark on a 10-day European tour to Hungary, Czech Republic, Slovak Republic and Austria performing in Budapest, Bratislava, Vienna and Prague.

Saturday, June 12
San Francisco Airport and Budapest, Hungary
Paly Choir departs on an overnight flight to Hungary.

Sunday, June 13
Budapest, Hungary
The tour manager meets the Choir upon arrival in Hungary and transfers the group to their hotel. An evening guided tour around Hungary's capital is followed by a dinner cruise on the Danube before returning to the hotel for a good night's sleep.

Monday, June 14
Budapest, Hungary
Morning sightseeing takes Paly Choir through Hungary's thousand-year history during a guided tour of Castle Hill, including Matthias Church. In the afternoon there is free time to wander the cobble-stoned streets of old Buda and proud Danube bridges. The Choir performs their first concert during the evening in either the Matthias Church or St. Stephen's Cathedral. Dinner will be in a restaurant this evening.

Tuesday, June 15
Budapest, Hungary
In the morning, the Choir tours the Danube Bend including visits to the Visegrad Castle and Szentendre. Subject to acceptance of repertoire, Paly Choir could perform as part of the Szentendre Summer Music Festival in the evening. Later, the Choir returns to Budapest for a special dinner with live gypsy music.

Wednesday, June 16
Bratislava, Slovak Republic
Depart Hungary in the morning and journey to the Slovakian capital of Bratislava. On arrival, the Choir checks in to the hotel and enjoys an orientation tour with the tour manager. Dinner in the evening is at a local restaurant.

Thursday, June 17
Bratislava, Slovak Republic
After breakfast comes a morning guided sightseeing tour of the Bratislava. In the afternoon, Paly Choir departs for Pezinok (approximately one hour travel time) and prepares for the next concert, performing in a local church for the community. Afterwards, dinner is at Matysak, a famous local restaurant, before returning to the hotel in Bratislava.

Friday, June 18
Vienna, Austria
After breakfast and checking-out of the hotel, Paly Choir journeys to the Austrian capital of Vienna, the historical center of the musical world and a must-visit for any young musician. En route, the Choir visits Eisenstadt, home of Joseph Haydn, enjoying a guided tour through the Esterházy Palace including the Haydn Church and 17th century "Haydn Saal" with its wonderful acoustics. Subject to availability, Paly Choir has the opportunity for informal singing in this historic venue. Here Haydn worked for more than 30 years. Many of his symphonies were premiered here to the Austrian Court and European nobility. Afterwards the Choir travels to Vienna and checks in to the hotel. Dinner is at a local restaurant.

Saturday, June 19
Prague, Czech Republic
Being a UNESCO heritage city, Vienna's historic centre is rich in architectural wonders from the great Stephansdom and Baroque castles to the 19th century Ringstrasse lined with grand buildings, monuments and parks. The morning guided tour includes the highlights of the city with visits to both the Vienna Opera and the Schoenbrunn Palace. In the afternoon Paly Choir departs for the Czech capital. On arrival and check in to the hotel, the Choir enjoys dinner together.

Sunday, June 20
Prague, Czech Republic
After breakfast, Paly Choir has a guided walking tour of historic Prague to see the major highlights including entrance to Castle district, Old Royal Palace, St. George's Basilica, and Golden Lane with Daliborka Tower. The afternoon is for leisure. The Choir performs the final concert at the lunchtime concert series at St. Nicholas Church in the Old Town. Dinner is in a local restaurant.

Monday, June 21
Prague, Czech Republic
In the morning, Paly Choir departs on a half-day excursion to Terezin (Theresienstadt), the ghetto city created by the Nazis in the Central Bohemian flatlands and a chilling testimony to events of World War II. The Choir visits the Small Fortress (a secure Nazi prison), Magdeburg Barracks (an exhibition of life, music and the arts in the ghetto) and the Ghetto Museum (documentation of Nazi policy towards the Jews, the creation of the ghetto, and the Holocaust). The afternoon is free for the Choir to explore at leisure. In the evening is a dinner cruise on the River Vltava to view the illuminated historic buildings of Prague by night.

Tuesday, June 22
Prague, Czech Republic and San Francisco Airport
Transfer to the airport for the return flight to the United States.

To register for the Summer tour, first fill out the tour survey and give the completed form to Mr. Najar. Then go to the tour company website, register and set up your account for payment. Every choir member or chaperone who is going on the tour needs a separate account.

To register and set up your account online, go to encoretours.com, select 'I am a participant', enter our group id, 64278, then enter our leader's last name, Najar, and follow prompts to complete your individual account.
