Early Assessment Program
The goal of the Early Assessment Program (EAP) is to have California high school graduates enter the California State University (CSU) system fully prepared to begin college-level study. During their junior year of high school, students can participate in the EAP to measure their readiness for college-level English and mathematics.
The EAP is designed to use Standardized Testing and Reporting (STAR) results that are administered during 11th grade:
- English EAP test
- Take the English-Language Arts STAR test.
- Answer 15 additional multiple-choice questions.
- Write a 45-minute essay based on a short non-fiction passage.
- Math EAP test
- Take the Algebra II or High School Summative Mathematics STAR test.
- Answer 15 additional multiple-choice questions.
Using their EAP results, students have the opportunity to adjust their high school senior coursework to prepare for college-level courses. Students who are admitted to CSU can earn exemptions from taking the required English and mathematics placement testing, based on their EAP results.
STAR and EAP results are mailed to students in August. On the back side of the STAR report is a small box with the EAP math and English results. To receive e-mail notification when the EAP results are ready, students can sign up online.
