Their Eyes Were Watching God
Once she sits down she begins combing road-dust out of her hair. Previously her hair has been a symbol of her youth, something which she misses. Though age brings experience she misses being a young blossom trying to figure life out and still having plenty of dreams. Her experiences have brought weight to carry on her shoulders and the road-dust is a metaphor for the experiences that are weighing her down. They are bringing physical weight onto her shoulders. She is trying to pull the road-dust out of her hair and return to the young naive girl that she once was.- RR
