Driving to Paly

If possible, when legal, please carpool as we have a temporary reduction in the amount of parking spaces.  This school year, only seniors will be able to purchase a parking permit and park on campus.  If you must park off campus, please be a good neighbor by not littering or parking in driveways, and modeling orderly behavior.  These streets are often very narrow, so please park as close to the curb as possible to allow for cars to pass more smoothly.  Palo Alto Police Department will continue to enforce all vehicle codes.   Please read the Parking Permits and Regulations page for all the latest information.

Entering from Embarcadero:

Cars entering from Embarcadero will make an immediate right into the main lot and park in the correct (student or visitor) marked parking stall.

Drivers wishing to drop off passengers will need to:

  1. Continue to the midway point of the parking lot.

  2. Turn left to enter the drop off area, and

  3. Get into the right drop off lane and pull forward as much as possible before stopping.

  4. Once you are done dropping off your passengers, continue in either the right or left lane (depending on what direction you would like to turn at Embarcadero) to the exit at Embarcadero.

Entering from El Camino Real:

If you would like to park, please use the pass thru lane to enter into the area with the marked (student or staff) parking stalls.   Once you are done dropping off your passengers, continue in either the right or left lane (depending on what direction you would like to turn at Embarcadero) to the exit at Embarcadero.   If you would like to return to the El Camino Real exit, please use the pass thru lane to enter the parking stalls area and use the row closest to El Camino which leads to the exit.

Important reminders for drivers dropping off students:

  • Please pull forward as much as possible before stopping at the curb marked in white and allowing your passengers to exit the vehicle.

  • Passengers must exit through the right-side doors of the vehicle.

  • Please do not use the pass thru lane to drop off students.

  • Please move cautiously and be extra aware of all students or adults who may be rushing on nearby walkways and not paying proper attention to oncoming traffic.

  • Give yourself extra time the first few days to get accustomed to this new process.

Important reminders for all drivers:

  • Westbound drivers on Churchill may not proceed across the Caltrain tracks on weekdays, 7:45 am to 8:30 am. You must turn right onto Alma.

  • Slow down and use extra caution in school zones and along commute routes! Signal your turns and yield to pedestrians.

  • Help reduce traffic congestion near Palo Alto High School and neighboring schools by carpooling with a neighbor and avoiding the last minute rush whenever possible.

  • Obey adult crossing guards and “No Right Turn on Red” signs posted at designated school intersections. This allows students to cross safely without cars turning through crosswalks.

  • Don’t make U-turns and other unsafe maneuvers that put other road users at risk.

  • Never double park, block access ramps or stop where prohibited.

  • Avoid texting, phone calls and other distractions when driving.
