The spring blood drive is Monday, March 17. Sign-up in room 214 or with a Key Club member to donate. (McNulty)
Clubs and Meetings:
- Peer Buddies and Associate members of Best Buddies meet today at lunch in room 33. (Rivera)
- Key Club meets at lunch tomorrow in room 214. (McNulty)
- The National Honor Society meets tomorrow in room 402. Current members must attend and we’re always open to new members. (Duffy)
- Come tot the Red Cross Club meting today in room 218 for volunteer opportunities. (Loh)
- Football 2008 meeting at lunch on Thursday in the Boys’ Gym for all future F/S and Varsity.
College and Career:
- Expanding Your Horizons in Math and Science Conference. A conference for 6-12th grade young women, students have the opportunity to meet women who use math and science in their careers. Over 100 women working in related fields will lead hands-on workshops that include experiments and a discussion of career options and educational requirements. The conference will take place on Saturday, March 15 at Skyline College in San Bruno from 8:15 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Register by March 7 at: http://skylinecollege.edu/eyh
- “Glimpses of China” summer program will be in the CCC at lunch on Friday. Come learn about this fascinating program. (Sinton)

Would you be interested in $2,500 for a special project or need in your classroom? Come to the ERC on Wed. at lunch for a workshop about Viking grants led by PTSA. (Benfield)
Scholarships:
Silicon Valley Community Foundation – 2007 Eustace-Kwan Family Foundation Scholarship - Seniors who are residents of Mountain View, East Palo Alto, Eastern Menlo Park, Redwood City, San Carlos, Belmont or San Mateo. Applicant must demonstrate financial need, be a U.S. citizen or legal resident, have a maximum unweighted GPA of 3.5. Up to 12 awards of $2500 each. Applicant must submit application, 2-3 letters of reference, transcript, personal statement, copy of parent or guardian’s most recent Tax Form 1040 and proof of citizenship or legal residency. This scholarship deliberately recruits students that have lower GPAs, but might follow a different life path if they receive additional funds. Silicon Valley Community Foundation – Bobette Bibo Gugliotta Memorial Scholarship for Creative Writing - Seniors who plan to major in the field of creative writing and who have demonstrated creative writing ability. Two grants of $1000 will be awarded. Applicant must submit application form, two letters of reference (one from a teacher or academic advisor and one from a work or volunteer supervisor), transcript, signed and dated personal statement, demonstrate financial need, proof of citizenship, and two creative writing samples completed for school, formal publication or extracurricular activity. Whittier College – Talent Scholarships - Seniors who are interested in attending Whittier College: Talent scholarships for Music, Theatre and Art ranging in value from $1000 to $12,000 per year and renewable for four years of study. Auditions for music scholarships will be held on 03/08/2008, Art Portfolios are due 03/19/2008 and Theatre auditions will be held on 3/15/2008. All applicants should submit supporting documents by those dates which include an essay, letters of recommendation, audition or submission of portfolio and the completion of a talent application form. New American College Fund – Educators for Fair Consideration - Low-income, immigrant seniors living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Applicants must be foreign-born, have documented financial need, lived in the California for 3 or more years of high school, plan to attend a two or four-year college or university for 2008-2009 and demonstrate academic prepartion, community or extracurricular involvement and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Experience Berkeley/Stiles Hall Community Service Agency - High School African-American Juniors with a 3.5 GPA or better. Participants receive funding for transportation, room and board and the opportunity to attend panel programs during July 10-12 and July 31-Aug 2, 2008 featuring current students, faculty and alumni, workshops on personal statements, academic planning, and financial aid sessions. San Jose GI Forum Scholarship Foundation - Hispanic Seniors or those of Mexican American decent, residing in Santa Clara County, planning to attend a 2 - or 4 - year college in the fall. The foundation awarded 26 scholarships in 2007 totalling $26,100. Applicants considered on their academic achievement, career goals, community and school activities and financial need. Hispanic Heritage Youth Awards - Seniors of Hispanic heritage with a minimum GPA of 2.75 are encouraged to apply for this award. The Campaign for College Opportunity/College Access Foundation of California/The California Dept. of Education - High school students may enter the scholarship contest by designing a 14” x 22” poster or TV ad on CD/DVD to answer the question “Why should California leaders save you a spot in college?”. Unlocking Doors – A Scholarship for Women - San Francisco Bay Area Senior women who are the first in their family who intend on attending college and demonstrate financial need (parent/guardiancombined annual income not to exceed $45,000/year. Applicant must live in one of 9 Bay Area counties which include San Mateo and Santa Clara, be the first generation in their family to attend a four year university or college, and be a U.S. citizen or legal resident. Scholarship Award is $1000. No minimum GPA or SAT/ACT score requirement, and open to all races, heritages, and ethniticies. Eiro Yamada Memorial Scholarship - Seniors who are a direct descendant of Japanese American veteran who served in WWII or a descendant once removed of a Japanese American serviceman or servicewomen killed in action during WWII (such as a grand-niece or grand nephew). Applicant must be an entering or current undergraduate or graduate student in a trade school, community college or 4 year college or university.
