COURSE DESCRIPTION

We are offering a pilot program at Palo Alto High School in engineering technology. The course is a survey or appreciation type course in which problem solving and group dynamics are stressed in all areas. Approval of the University of California "F" requirement is granted for this class. The students will gain experience in international problem solving competitions as well as hands on technological experiences with industry standard computer design packages. We realize that there are many career fields in engineering and plan to include specialization as availability of equipment allows.

• Telecommunications / Robotics
• Programming / C++ / UNIX / Computer Assembly & Repair
• Electronics / Digital / Analog / Electric Vehicles
• Computer Design / AutoCAD / Computer Graphics
• Hydraulics / Pneumatics
• Computer Numerical Code Machining / Structure Building
• Computer Networking Installation / Computer upgrading
• Novell Network Administration / CNA certification

Advanced projects managed by the students in this class include:

• Management of Paly-Net, our campus wide internet and E-Mail system.
• Management of the Palo Alto High School Computer Recycling Center.
• Participation in National Competitions including:
  • Odyssey of the Mind
  • First Robotics Competition
  • The Tech Challenge
  • TEAMS - engineering problem solving competition
  • Santa Clara Valley Science and Engineering Fair
