Coach's Take

In his first full year of distance running, Fedor made incredible improvements in his times across the board. During XC, he dropped over 3 minutes in just 3 weeks at Crystal Springs, proving that his consistent work was starting to pay off.

The real gains, however, came during track. All season long Fedor was shooting to break the 6 minute mile, but he never seemed quite able to put it all together, and frankly we weren't sure he was going to be able to do it... Then came the Gunn meet under the lights on a nice cool evening in April.

Having a few Gunn runners to compete against, Fedor ignored his split times and simply competed with his heart. What he found was that his legs and his lungs could do way more then he ever imagined. He crossed the line in 5 minutes, 41 seconds - A monstrous 30 second personal best!

Let me tell you folks, if you could have seen the look in his eyes and the pride in his face when he crossed that finish line and heard his time... well, you'd understand why we love this sport so much and why the team has 60 returning athletes.

We hope that finally Fedor is convinced he's not a sprinter and we expect him to enjoy a strong season of improvement as he continues to get used to distance running.
