Henry transferred to Paly just after the XC season finished, and introduced himself to us in January. He had run in the low 19's at the prestigious Stanford Invite, so we knew we had yet another good freshman, but no-one couuld have expected that he would run this fast!
His 4:52 mile came a few weeks before season's end, and with his sub-60 400 speed, there was probably more in the tank for that distance. His true abilities were shown at the Gunn dual meet where he ran his 3200 PR of 10:30, almost beating Captain Narang.
His summer training has been exactly what we asked of him: not too intense (he is only a sophomore after all), but very consistent. As a result, its going to be very fun to watch Henry run his first Paly XC season. He should certainly be one of the top 3 runners on a very strong FS team, but with the 3rd fastest returning 2-mile time on the team, I would certainly hope that he's shooting for making the post-season Varsity team that could challenge for League & CCS titles.
Regardless of his performance, Henry's easygoing attitude and dedication to the sport are things we are very excited to enjoy for the next 3 years! |
