Chris is a pleasure to coach! He's quiet, diligent and respectful. One of those kids who don't ever have to repeat yourself to - he was listening the first time. This attitude is going to reap great rewards, both in running and whatever else Chris chooses to pursue in life.
As a runner, when he joined the XC team he couldn't break 15 minutes for 2 miles. After 8 months of XC & Track he ran that same distance in 12:42!!!! Along with that time, I believe the track season was very satisfying as he got the 6:00 mile barrier out of the way early - doing it in our dual meet against Monta Vista.
I hope Chris and his group of friends who are all running similar times take a look at the spreadsheet of XC performances at Gunn that I've put together. I hope they realize from seeing the continued improvement of kids older than them that if they continue to work hard, their times will continue to drop... and drop... and drop. And before they know it the 6 minute barrier will be a thing of the past and it will be the 5 minute barrier (or 11 minutes for 2-miles) that they'll be aiming for.
Keep up the hard work Chris! |
