Where did this kid come from? He was a solid freshman cross-country runner, ran a 5:29 1600 time trial in October, but then didn't do much, if any, running until he showed up to track practice in February.
By April 13th he had gotten himself back into shape and PR'd in the mile with a 5:19 against Milpitas. At that point I think anyone would have suggested that it was a successful season for the youngster.
But in the next two weeks, Conor simply caught on fire. On April 20th he dropped an 11 second PR by clocking a 5:08 against Los Altos. Then (and folks, this is truly unbelievable), he followed that up the following week on April 27th with a bigger 12 second PR busting out a 4:56 against Gunn. Holy mackerel! (thanks to Scott for the spelling tip)
I mean, seriously, who plods along all season, takes 11 weeks to go from 5:29 to 5:19, and then in a mere 2 weeks drops that to 4:56!!!!
We hope that Conor has caught the running "bug" and that he's keeping those legs warm this summer. The Paly sophomore group this year could do some serious damage in Frosh/Soph competitions around the section and state, and Conor's track prowess positions him to be one of its key members.
