VOCABULARY WORDS/QUIZZES

You will receive 10 new vocabulary words each week, which I will add to a stack of vocabulary note cards that we will maintain and that you will be responsible for throughout the semester. Thatís right, the system will be cumulative. You will have to learn the words, and learn them for good.

You should be prepared for a vocabulary quiz on the semesterís words every day. On some days, I will ask for definitions; on others I will ask you to use words in a sentence.

The quiz procedure will be as follows: I will select five random words from our stack of note cards. Then I will select five random students from a stack of note cards with student names on them. Then Iíll ask each of the students to each give a definition or a sentence for his or her word.

Four out of every five students need to answer correctly each day for everybody in the class to maintain an A for their vocabulary grade. If two students miss a vocabulary word on any given day, we will immediately have a quiz and then find out who really knows the words and who doesnít ... AND the quiz scores will be recorded for individuals.

It will be incumbent upon a student who answers incorrectly to make amends with the rest of the class. A batch of cookies delivered the nest day usually does the trick.
